How do you
check plants at the nursery for nectar?  That's a new one to me.

Nancy,
I take off one flower and  remove all the flower petals and look in
the base of the flower. If it contains droplets in the base it's a nectar
producer. Some flowers like abutilan can be grasps without removing flowers
or petals and  whip it against the palm of your hand. If it's a good nectar
producers, you will see droplets in your hand. Frankly, I like the more
destructive method. Somethings, whipping the flowers won't make the nectar
come out.
