Re: nicotiana , now fragrant flowers

Nancy,
Don't feel too bad-- I think that if a grower/breeder presses his/her nose
against a blossom and doesn't smell plain air, they call it "fragrant" some
times!  If a plant is labeled as fragrant, I am sure it ups its ante for
marketing purposes.  Some of the plants I've seen listed as fragrant; not
even!  Perhaps you have a nose that demands true wafting AROMA.  Lilies do it
for me, in fact you can have too much.  Daphne too, and Carnations are strong
enough to catch you as you pass.  I like the way bearded Iris smell, but you
have to stick your nose in.  I haven't done a real search on this subject,
and next year's project for me is hummingbirds, but maybe I'll be inspired by
all this discussion!
I also have Nicotiana sylvestris that doesn't smell a bit.
