Re: OT; tomato question

Hi Isabelle,as a long time member of Seed Savers Exchange I have never seen
Enchantment listed as an open pollinated (non hybrid).
Also to add to the confusion seed catalogs list more than one tomato
titled Enchantment..
One is listed as a bunching large cherry type, another, one I have
grown(which I am sure is hybrid)is a medium slicer, very rounded and well
flavored..
Even though it appears its a hybrid, why not try a few seeds, and see what
happens?Occasionally a seed becomes 'stabilised'something the seed sources
dont wish to acknowledge as sales would suffer..Not saying that it applies
to Enchantment, but its worth a try who knows it might still produce a good
tom even if it doesnt come 'true'..Take seed from the
best toms, from perhaps 3 different plants and plant several .Thin to the
strongest, most vigorous and see what it produces.A couple of plants will
give you the answer..Also one can 'hybridize'their own selections by
crossing say a tom with great flavor with one of great production; the
results can be wonderful (or not),but it will not come true the next year
either, fun but you will have to repeat the process......
