Thanks to the people who sent suggestions on what the
gorgeous purple butterfly bush might be. I've looked up
pictures of several, and decided it's pretty impossible
to tell from the pictures, since one of the same name
looks incredibly different in different people's
pictures. Maybe I'll just have to plant three or four
and see. Now if I can just find someone with some
acreage who won't mind lending me some of it for my
experiment!
