Hi,
     I am so glad to hear that it is ok to cut the large roots, because my
husband just moved a 12' Nellie R. Stevens holly and had to cut those large
roots.  He got a large rootball and it did have lots of small feeder roots.
It was quite a chore to move.  He had to get his truck and wrap a rope
around the trunk of the holly and pull it out of the hole with his truck.  I
am not recommending that--probably all you experts are going to advise
against this method--but it was the only way to get it out of the hole!  So
far it looks fine.  I just hope it lives through this moving experience.
