Hi, perennial gang...
I've been lurking since recently rejoining the perennial list and have
enjoyed the anemone chatter. It's great to be back and to see some familiar names.
I need some help on something:
This spring, I planted the above mentioned Liriope, which I adore, but it's
not reliably hardy in my z.5a. Has anyone else in this zone tried it with
success? What would anyone suggest I do to prepare for winter, i.e., cut it back
hard, mulch with compost or other material, etc.? The exposure is southwest and
it's in a somewhat protected area backing up to an open-design fence that's 4
feet tall. It's grown very well this season with just compost added to the
amended soil in the bed. Besides this and water, I have done nothing to it.
I have more of this Liriope planted under some dwarf crabs and it doesn't
grow - it seems okay but looks the same as the day it went in about 5 years ago.
It gets adequate irrigation and compost once a year.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Joanie Anderson
