Here in Ottawa, Canada, campanula carpatica "blue clips" and Coreopsis (sp.
unknown) are still blooming merrily away after 2 months. Heliopsis,
delphiniums, dahlias and sedum "dragon's blood" are lovely. My clematis
jacmanii and another reddish one are re-blooming beautifully after a break.
Sedum "autumn joy" and another similar variety are just beginning to show
colour (one red, the other pink). The leaves of Oenethera Tetragona are
starting to turn red. Columbine and geraniums (var unknown) have only just
finished reblooming. Still a few blossoms on my foxgloves. Oh, and my shrub
rose is reblooming a bit. I'm really going to have to prune it back this
autumn - it's over 7 feet tall now - a bit overwhelming for the rest of the
border.
It's been a strange summer with everything coming into its prime 2-3 weeks
later than usual.
I've just purchased Veronica, Yarrow and Purple Coneflower to give some
additional late summer colour for next year. Joe Pye Weed sounds interesting.
I think I may have to acquire some.
There's a little perennials vendor at the local open-air market (a scant 1 km
from my house). The plants are a very good size and, being autumn, the prices
are irresistable. I am incapable of passing without picking something
up! Is anyone else here as weak-willed as I am?
Happy gardening,
-Sheila
