Sorry, Robin, the flowers are pretty inconspicuous.  Alternatively, you
might let it grow and then graft some "good wood" onto it when it is a bit
larger.  Do you know anyone locally who might have a good avocado who could
give you some wood?  If you want to know more about grafting avocados,
