Everyone,
Most of you probably know this, but for those of us just starting
landscaping projects out there, I want to share a story. Autumn is a
tremendous time to purchase hardy perennials, trees, and shrubs. Garden
centers are moving their stock at greatly reduced rates rather than carry
it over the winter.
For instance, our local center is marking down almost everything at 50%
off. Even newly arrived nursery stock (and they keep bringing in more,
just to have something on the lot). Yesterday, I bought good healthy husky
1 gal rhodies for $2.99. These had just been delivered from the wholesale
nursery and had not yet even been labeled for sale. I needed a couple to
fill in a hole in the border (I got carried away with border clearing over
the weekend), but bought a dozen at that price.
And yes, Duncan, I can propagate rhodies. But for three dollars?
