Cathy,
You did not state which zone you are in. Nonetheless you should plant the irises
right away. We have a saying here in zone 6 that if you plant by the end of
August and there are "bubletts" on the mother rhisome it will flower next year. We
put alfalfa pellets and a 10-10-10 fertilizer in the soil before we plant. Be
sure not to plant too deeply. Some recommend that a bit of the while mother
rhisome should still be visible.
