>> I have Oak trees in my yard and I end up with huge amounts of leaves. I
have
always heard that oak leaves are extremely acidic and should not be left on
the ground over the winter so I have religiously raked all of them out of my
yard every year. What kind of leaves are you leaving in your flower gardens?
Do you think I should just leave the oak leaves in mine? Jeanne<<
In many soil types the acidity of oak leaves gets neutralized somewhat, so the
pH isn't usually a big problem. Unless your soil is already too acidic or you
are growing plants that prefer alkaline soil. The trouble with Oak leaves is
that takes several years for them to break down. If you are going to use Oak
leaves, it is best to break them up first. The easiest way to do this is run
over them with the lawnmower. --Janis
