Re: Penstemon 'Midnight Blue'

I have a penstemon named 'Blue Midnight'.  It is not a strictus hybrid.  It is
of descent from a Mexican species such as P campanulatus (Like the ones that
are planted as annuals or bedding plants).  However, this plant must have
another hardier species in its background as it is hardier than any of the
similar looking tender Mexican hybrids.  It is the only one of the Mexican
hybrids that I grow that is reliably hardy here in zone 7 without protection.

These Mexican Hybrids are actually subshrubs, not heraceous perennials like P.
Strictus.
