I watched the same episode, and what you saw were several varieties of
cockscomb, or Celosia cristata. They are an annual plant that come in a
variety of colors, usually yellow or red and a variety of forms from
cockscomb like, to brain-like, or just kind of feathery, rather like an
amaranth, to which it is related.
