Now I have another question, I'm almost embarassed to ask...Does polemonium
die back in the heat of the summer, or did mine just die? I had really good
seed germination this spring, and potted up the plants into 4 inch pots.
Several of them died in the pots (way too hot) so I set some of the
healthier looking ones out in a bed and babied them all summer. Suddenly, a
week or so ago, they dried up and turned brown. I've discovered I'm a whole
lot more successful at germinating seeds than growing the plants to
adulthood!
Paul, I guess THAT'S why so many seeds are packaged by the 100's!!>>
Nancy - Many of the Jacob's ladders will not take prolonged wet or damp soil
in high humidity.
Last year I lost 50 seedlings each of a pink polemonium and a yellow one.
They grew just perfect and were good sized until August came and we had a
very wet two week period-the roots just rotted away. If there is a 100 ways
to kill a plant I have killed them a 130 diffrent ways.
Since you have them in a pot it should not be to hard to remove the soil from
the container and see if the roots are still white, if they are most likely
they will come back. If not check to see if the crown is still firm, I hope
they are all right.
I am glad you had good germination.
A 100 or 50 seeds sounds like a lot of plants to start with but it's easier
to cull than it is to start over.
