Boy Chris, are you good or WHAT!! It certainly looks like the picture of
the bundle flower seed pod. Dimensions don't match (my seed pod is about an
inch in diameter, but that's exactly what it looks like! (will my
mother-in-law be impressed!) And, with a name to search, I came up with
some instructions: scarify seed and soak overnight in warm water. It
didn't say anything about stratification. I think I'll try the paper towel
technique. Maybe toss a few in the fridge for a month or so and see what
effect it has.
I'm fairly certain this was a shrub and not a tree; I think she'd recognize
that much.
Thanks so much for your help, I'm so excited now, especially since you like
yours so well. Well, back to the search engines to see what else I can
learn about it.
