Lynn, when I read what you said about the Salvia azurea, it reminded me of
something important. I used to lose all my Salvia leucanthas over the winter.
Salvia leucantha, has always been a favorite of mine and I couldn't
understand why it never lived until a woman asked me if I was cutting it to
the ground after it died back. Yes, I was. That was it said she! The Salvias
like to keep their unkempt stalks intact through the winter. If you cut the
dead stalks back, water goes into the openings where the stalks were cut and
death is nigh. Sure enough, I left
all my Salvias alone and the leucanthas have returned every year since. Never
lost another one!
Hope you
have a pretty day for planting! Holly
