I have been growing various types of Iris for a number of years now:
Iris japonica, Kaempfari, germanica, bearded, sibirica, and pseudacorus.
Over the years, I have noticed that there is a drop in the number of flowers
on all these types except for the pseudacorus.
Fertilization does not seem to significantly alter this drop off, though
it has marked affect on leaf growth and color. I have
been told that in Japan the large iris gardens are actually lifted out of
the ground every other year and the root tips clipped in order ti
reinvigorate the plant.
Does anyone on the list have any knowledge or experience with this?
