Re: Killing weeds with fire?

I just want a magic bullet that will kill *my* weeds. :)

I'm a little confused by this one. I usually apply Roundup double
strength in accordance with the directions, which say that double
doses are more effective on hard-to-kill weeds and shrubby plants.

Is this based on your past experiences, or is it scientifically
documented somewhere? I believe that you haven't had better results
with more, but I'm just curious why...

Do you mean the addition of another surfactant? What do you use?

Are you worried at all about the buildup of salts after each Roundup
application? There has been research that shows these salts to decrease
the disease resistance of subsequent plantings in areas treated with
Roundup (particularly with respect to root rot). Since the area that
I'm treating is a mostly shaded, fairly moist section I'm especially
concerned about the root rot bit (hence the quest for other means of
weed removal).

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, and I'm not doing it to challenge
you... I'm just curious about other people's success and experiences
with Roundup, and since you've obviously had a lot of experience, you get
a lot of questions. :)

For what it's worth, the area that was treated met *most* of your
requirements for successful application. If I had to guess I'd say
that the biggest problem is location -- the area is cool and shaded
for the most part, and gets a fair amount of moisture regularly.

Chris (who's thinking things would be easier if he just had a weed
       garden instead :)
