Re: Don't shoot the messenger!

Gene wrote <Hepatica can be even more touchy to play with. Best from
established divisions
that take many years to grow to size. Erythronium takes up to 5 years before
first
bloom. Dodecatheon are easy. Bloom the second year a bit. Just place 3 or more
seeds to the 4" pot to fill it out quicker and do not thin out.>

                                             WHAT?????
Three years, Four years, FIVE YEARS!?!?!?!?!? Thank you for the
offer of internship. Yes, I'd love to come and apprentice in Munchkin Land.
In fact, I have always wanted to hole up at a wonderful nursery and learn the
tools of the trade, Problem is I have three Munchkins of another ilk to raise
here in home zone 7. Actually, this Natives Bug took hold quite
recently -- just this past May. I had all systems on go for perennials and
such, but when I took my sons camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains and saw
what an incredible display was there, it was as if I'd never laid eyes on
anything so lovely before! And I've been going there almost all my life* Go
figure.
So as an afterthought these woodland beauties appeared late
on the scene - a whole new world I'm learning! I am taking your advice, Gene.
Again and thank you. I am going to hold onto anything too young to talk and
try not to worry about tying up $$ and space. :<~? There doesn't seem to be
a smiley face or acronym for <Forced Grin with Great Angst.> Much needed
expression.
How did you guess that I've adopted
baby Erythronium, too? Five years should give us time to get acquainted. The
cultivation guidelines for Fritillaria are downright daunting. And I can't
bring myself to ask about the Trillium. I think I know.
                                                                Ah, the
wonder of wildflowers, enigmas of the perennial world.
Holly
