Re: ADMIN: update

MJ: Your Pheasants Forever group seems to have taken a limited viewpoint on
what (at least I had thought) was a more broad, important mission than the
increasing of pheasant populations. Makes me want to find out what our
local PF group would do. Having just returned from a symposium on invasive
species, this pheasant issue illustrates some of the problems inherent in
defining just exactly what an invasive species is. For instance, when does a
pheasant (or any other species) become a "naturalized citizen" and what
criteria is adequate to categorize a species, endemic or introduced, as
"invasive"? Ed (from S. IL) has reminded us that pheasants are not always a
desireable presence, especially when they have a negative impact on rare
native species. Pheasants Forever maintains a popular presence as a
conservation organization, so it would be worth the effort to follow up with
another round of questions about their stand on your restoration proposal.
