Somehow we managed to over look some seed we collected last year. Here in
southern IL spring turns to summer pretty fast and we need some advice on
how to deal with the seed. We have liatrus, yellow cone flower, purple
coneflower, prairie false indigo, tickseed sunflower, and compass plant.
Is it too late to plant directly in the field?
Should we try planting the seed in flats?
Our woodland flowers are about done, they were spectacular at the end of
march and first week of april. Phlox, violets, a few trilliums and may
apples are still blooming and the dogwoods are peaking. Morels are done too,
for all you mushroom freaks. Prairie dock, compass plant, and two other
silphiums are up about six to eight inches. So are the cone flowers, black
eyed susans, rattlesnake master and milk weeds. Actually everything is up
about six to eight inches. Nothing is blooming.
