Mowing tick trefoils when they form flower buds or are in early
flowering stage weakens them for the rest of the season, giving
grasses and late-flowering forbs more of an edge. It seems like some
of worst "weeds", both native and exotic, in prairie plantings are
legumes, probably because their seeds are stimulated to germinate by
fire. I often wish for a legume-specific herbicide to deal with these
pesky plants.
