I cannot cite the source of the burning studies showing the dramatic increase
in flowering stalks in grasses. I also would like to learn the source of the
information.
The commercial grass seed producers in the High Plains of Texas burned their
production fields for many years. These fields are large 20-50 acres, or
more. Yields are consistently good, irrigation is used in this 18 inch
rainfall zone. Grasses are planted in rows, cultivated and harvested with a
combine.
One of the reasons for burning was to remove the combine tailings. Burnig was
the cheapest way to do this. I have not had contact with them for several
years but assume they worked out the details allowing them to continue
burning.
