Re: Cleaning equipment

The C.S. Bell Co. makes hammer mills to reduce your seed volume. They are
available in several sizes from small to large. Price range is from
approximately $2,000-$3,000. Different size screens are available for
around $30 each. These are very sturdy machines that will last through
several careers. I have tried using mulching machines sold at local stores
to my dissatisfaction. They are generally very loud, dirty, lose a lot of
seeds through cracks and crevices, and need to be replaced frequently. We
use the Model #20 Bottom Discharge with 9 inch wide feed opening (6 inch
wide is sufficient for smaller volumes).

Does anyone have any references or suggestions for small-scale seed
cleaning?
I'm looking for some type of machine that can reduce several hundred
pounds/year of collected material to a form suitable for seedballs. For
example, we'll be collecting little bluestem, and I'd like to be able to
grind
it down to perhaps a quarter-inch size. I've looked at various hammermills
on
the internet, but they tend to be industrial size.

I've tried cleaning with screens at home, and it's too time-consuming.

Any references for simple mechanized seed collecting would be helpful as
well...
