I received this e mail to Iowa Prairie Network. Can any one in Texas help
this gentleman.
Subject: Looking for someone with interest

Came to my attention this week that a native prairie meadow of about 100
acres, (all that remains of nearly a thousand acre tract) is slated for
development in the immediate future in my area. I've been hauling hay off
this meadow since I was 15. I'm over 40 now. One parks and wildlife ranger
once told me the depressions that dot the high ridge of this land are old
buffalo wallows.

The tract is in Texas just east of Dallas. Do you know of any organizations
in that area that might be interested in looking into the imminent death of a
beautiful remnant of our natural heritage.

I once read of a group who if nothing else tried to arrange for transplanting
of representative species from these native grasslands. I hate to see this
one go. Makes real pretty hay. Due to its native origin it usually does fair
even in drought years.

You can e-mail me at either
dpcofhwa@aol.com
hwa@poboxes.com

Any suggestions or pointers would be welcome. I'm afraid there's little to be
done at this late date. There had been a plan to leave this area alone but
new owners see lots of houses there.
