Life after Reeds Canary Grass?

I have located a low-land area in Central Iowa of several acres that has reportedly never been plowed.  On the one edge that is slightly higher in elevation there are a few clumps of big bluestem persisting in an area of mainly brome and presumably bluegrass.  The bulk of the area is over run with Reeds Canary Grass.  Is there any chance any prairie species can survive this total domination of both sun and ground space?  Or enough species  to justify attempting to wage war on the Canary Grass?  I do not know how long the area has been infested but expect it has been many years.  I do not think anything has been done with this area for at least 20 years.
