In the St. Louis area these two Eurasian grasses are roughly
comparable. Northward bluegrass is more invasive. Southward
fescue is more invasive. Our experience here is that regular burning
favors the natives to the point where both of these exotics become
minor components of the prairie planting. Our older (10+ year)
plantings have very little of either of these grasses, except where
they've experienced mid-summer haying. In burn-only plots these
grasses can legitimately be described as uncommon.
