Re: Indian paintbrush-castillegia coccinea

All the plants you listed are great hummer plants. I know many species of
butterflies utilize Indian Paintbrush, but I personally haven't witnessed
hummers. Try Red Buckeye, Coral Honeysuckle, Turks Cap, Monarda sp, Coral Bean,
Larkspur, Ruellia sp. Many non aggressive non natives are excellent sources, as
you are probably well aware of, and being in zone 6 you have little to worry
about from these non natives causing environmental problems. Just remember
species from the following families are main sources: Mint, Mallow, Buttercup,
Acanthus. Parsley or carrot family members are important for they provide food
in a different way. Many tiny insects are found in the inflorescence which
provide food for the young. Hope this helps.
