Perhaps it was the amount of fuel, the two post-burn areas I've looked at
around Austin were in most places totally consumed. Both hadn't been burned
for many years - any pre-burn rosettes I had noted before were gone. The
perennials eventually recovered...
(I've been casually attributing the lack of winter fire to the huge amounts of
winter forbs on old hay meadows around town. The acres are overflowing with
winecup, Englemann daisy, etc, all nestled into the extensive "thatch"... hard
to believe they could prosper after a good scorching.)
