Announcing ---------------
Peters Prairie Preservation - Chapter Project
Prairie Maintenance Day (and a day in the country)
June 14 - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
led by MN's Jim Varnum and Jeff Quayle
The Peters Prairie is a 4-acre tallgrass prairie remnant in eastern Collin
County recently purchased by the Native Prairies Association of Texas. And
the
North Texas Chapter, Master Naturalists is helping NPAT maintain and preserve
it. You are invited to the first Peters Prairie Maintenance Day (and a day in
the country).
Tasks on Prairie Maintenance Day ----------
* Update plant survey ID.
* Mark the northern and eastern boundaries.
* Mark woody plants (small trees) for removal.
* Begin cutting down and removing the woody plants.
* Documenting the work via digital camera.
Where: Peters Prairie on Collin County Road 622 north of Farmersville.
How to get there ----------
* Take US 380 east from McKinney to Hwy 78 in Farmersville.
* Take Hwy 78 north about 6.0 miles to Co. Rd. 618 on the right (E).
* Take county road 618 (E), passing Co. Rd. 619 and Indian Creek bridge at
7.7 miles.
* Turn right (S) onto Co. Rd. 662 at 8.4 miles and go to the easement gate
on the left at 9.1 miles. Just pass the gate is the Loueen Peters brown and
red mobile home.
OR meet at the Dairy Queen in Farmersville at 8:30 a.m. and we'll lead you
there.
We'll supply water and other cold drinks and snacks.
Please bring ---------
* lunch
* sun and insect (chigger) protection.
* chain saws and other saws for trees, loppers, work gloves, etc.
* digital cameras
Wear: old clothes, long pants, work boots.
