In order to determine if your cropland is eligible for the
USDA-Conservation Reserve Program, you will need to visit your local
USDA Service Center that serves your county. There phone number is in
the U.S. Government section of your phone book. If not reply to this
message with the county where your land is located and I will give you
the phone number to the Service Center. The Service Center houses the
offices of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly the Soil
Conservation Service-SCS) and the Farm Services Agency (formerly the
Agricultural Stabiliztion and Conservation Service- ASCS). The Farm
Services agency administers the program. You go here first. They make
determinations on person eligibility, verify crop histories, and
administer cost-sharing and rental payments to applicants accepted into
CRP. The NRCS office will then make a land eligibility determination
based on soils, topography, location, and other natural resource
features on the property. They also, along with other agencies assist
accepted applicants in developing a conservation plan that meets the
objectives of the CRP and the landowner(s).
