Gabe,
In DeKalb county, both Shabbona Lake State Park and Afton Forest
Preserve have prairie restorations. The one at Afton is very
carefully managed, and has a lot of flowers. It is very impressive.
Shabbona is where my study site is located, and while it is bigger, it
has fewer forbs, and the restorations are probably more typical of
what is done at state parks. The predominant plants on my study plots
are Sorghastrum nutans (Indiangrass), Poa pratensis (Ky. Bluegrass),
Bromus inermis (Hungarian brome), Solidago rigida (rigid goldenrod),
Solidago altissima (tall goldenrod), Ratibida pinnata (gray-headed
coneflower), Echinacea pallida (pale purple coneflower), Rubus
occidentalis (one of those blackberries) and Eryngium yuccifolium
(rattlesnake master).
Good luck with your research!
