I've lost my copy of an email on the listserve from a month or two ago
announcing small prairie grants for research. Does anyone still have that
information? The email included below seems a good candidate if the
deadline hasn't passed.

Subject: Inquiry on grants and scholarships for prairie ecology research
Dear Native Prairie Association of Texas:
I am a PhD student at Texas Tech University where I am researching aerial
survey techniques to detect new prairie grouse leks and to count leks. My
focus is on the lesser prairie-chicken in the southern plains of Texas, but
the research is equally applicable to other prairie grouse, also in need of
accurate population numbers.
I am writing to ask if you grant research monies to individual researchers
such as myself. Although I have the costs of my research funded for air
time, I am in need of funds to cover my expenses while I attend a vertebrate
sampling class at Colorado State University for 10 weeks this spring 2006.
The monies I am needing relate to expenses to travel (drive) round-trip
between Lubbock, TX and Ft. Collins, CO and to cover my rent and utility
expenses while in Colorado (I also have to pay my rent and utilities in
Lubbock while in Colorado). Total costs amount to approximately $1200. My
tuition is covered by a scholarship by the USDA NRCS in Wyoming.
Please reply indicating whether you would consider funding my expenses in
whole or in part or if there are other prairie research granting agencies to
whom I might apply.
Thank you very much for your reply to my inquiry. Have a very peaceful and
grateful Thanksgiving holiday.
With best regards,
Hope Woodward
