I don't know of any single publication that is devoted to weed control
in native plantings.  Much of the information available is experiencial
info obtained from professional and amateur restorationists.  I am
seeing more and more information on the use of herbicides than I have in
the past.  I remember several years back that many folks in the
restoration business seemed to have a cultural or philosophical aversion
to the use of chemicals on an area that they were trying to "get back to
nature".  I believe that as time has passed and there is more
restoration going on the pragmatists of the world have learned that
herbicides can be excellent tools to use.  Our weed problems in restored
prairies are introduced species that were never present in the native
plant communities.  These plants can be very competetive and may take
years to control with traditional fire only techniques.  I have a
reference entitled "Vegetating with Native Grasses in Northeastern North
America"
produced by the Natural Resources and Conservation Service and Ducks
Unlimited.   There is a good section in this manual on weed control.
