I second that motion on Kudzu. I live in Illinois and believe it or not
Kudzu has become a real problem in some places. It is not just a
problem in the southern end of the state. Kudzu has proved its ability
to invade in areas much further north in the state where it was
previously thought not to be able to survive the winters. The Illinois
Department of Natural Resources has been working with landowners to get
rid of it. Most of the kudzu in Central and Northern Illinois was
introduced. It did not naturally migrate from the South. Landowners
from north of the Mason Dixon line did not grow up seeing Kudzu and
therefore typically don't recognize it until it has spread onto their
property and become a real problem. I caution anyone planting kudzu in
the "North" not to assume that the winters will be sufficiently cold to
keep it from spreading.
