I couldn't afford the local ecotype seed. We have some very nice
dealers in Wisconsin but I bought at much lower prices from
Stock Seed in Nebraska. I'd heard the "50 mile rule" but I'm
not sure even these "local" dealers are within that limit for
me, and the terrain varies considerably even within 50 miles of here.
Is there some method, apart from trusting a seemingly reputable
dealer's word, to assure the geographic origin of prairie seed?
Who's to say that someone's stand of a species wasn't generated
from seed they or someone else imported?
