Re: local ecotype seeds

It is a slow process, but the North Texas program of The Nature Conservancy has
placed several tallgrass species in production with the NRCS plant material
center at Knox City. The genetic origin is Clymer Meadow, which is on vertisol
in northcentral Texas. Although TNC has some immediate obligations for the
first proceeds, it is our intention that these will be eventually released as
site identified, commercially-available seedstock. These will not be cultivars,
so fair genetic diversity should be represented. I would expect some of this
seedstock to begin to trickle into the market within the next 5 years.
