From personal experience I've always had the best luck frost seeding forbs
and sedges (dormant fall or winter seedings). Most grasses seem to do best
seeding as spring seedings. As I recall, The Prairie Garden by Smith and
Smith also recommends that practice. I should mention that most of my
experience is in the nursery setting planting monocultures.
The prairie and wetland restorations that I have been involved with seem to
have the best results as a whole with frost seedings. Woodlands appear to be
an exception and seem to do best as spring seedings.
Good luck,
Corrine

Does anyone have any experience with frost seeding native forbs and grasses?
Personal, books, articles etc?
