Re: County Project

You can add to list :
The Prairie Enthusists of NW Ill, and The Prairie Defenders of McHenry Co, Ill
and the FERMI Lab in Batavia, Illinois
In addition The Nature Conservancy (TNC) publishes a book call Prairie
University
which list several dozen prairie organization
There regional office is on Monroe st , Chicago, Illinois
You may wish to investigate Hybreed-Poplars for stream bank erosion
they are known to grow 12 ft in a year....
If you are looking to plant prairie try to plant native genotype
It will be expensive.....particularly the forbs.....
To reduce your cost see if you can create a prairie orchard
with a non-profit such as TNC , In exchange for seed you allow
the Non-profit to harvest the seed when the plants are established.
Todays prairie restoration is fractured compared to 200 plus species
that exist for native prairie...

A good prairie can reduce soil erosion from 2/10 of ton per year
vs up to 9 tonnes per year if you were growing corn

Three Illinois places to ask: Nature Conservancy, Illinois Natural
