Wow! Talk about tallgrass prairie!

Indian Grass in my northern Illinois study site is only 6' tall, and
the Big Bluestem is a little taller, so in my opinion, the 11' grass
you're getting cannot be called "weak". In fact, you may have the
Michael Jordon of grasses!

So far, all of the plants are standing up just fine, unless I trample
them. Rain sometimes temporarily bends them over a little, but they
come back. Maybe yours fell over because it just got too tall.

Also, I noticed that the Big Bluestem had "flowers" before the Indian
Grass. Does this happen where you're at too?

This year the vast majority of our Indian Grass and Big Bluestem is
laying over. We had hot weather and no rain at all for 5 1/2 weeks
preceded by 4 months of above average rainfall. We haven't had high
winds or storms of any significance. Could the weather be a
contributing factor to this phenomenon? Some of our Big Bluestem is
over 11' high but it never fell over like it is this year.
