Your best bet is to compost your leaves first...If
you know what the Indore compost method is...by all means...use some green
materials and stir them into the leaves. Turn every 3 days if weather is above
40 degrees, by the 2nd or 3rd week, your pile should almost be, or will be done.
How tall your Rye grass is makes a difference also....if it is over 8 inches
tall, then I would say it's safe to add. Mine is around 8 inches tall, but I
still prefer to till it in, then till in my compost pile a day or two after,
making sure the rye takes care of any unfinished materials that might have not
decomposed enough. You have the right idea though......Organic material, and
more organic material! If you do add them straight in....be on the safe side and
add some nitro into the soil at the same time....just to be on the safe side.
Remember, Nitrogen leaches the fastest....through the soil and air...so better
to have some in the ground if you do add them in without decomposing them
first!
