Amount of Fertilizer Used to Push Pumpkins
2,715 LBS OF PUMPKIN ON ONE PLANT
From the April 1997 edition of the Ottawa-St.Lawrence Growers Newspaper.
By Harold Baird of Kinburn, Ontario
After reading the above story of four huge pumpkins on one plant, I tried to
decipher the fertilizer ratios and amounts used to achieve this outstanding
result. It appeared that every 2-3 weeks the amount of fertilizer was
increased from 3 tblsp to 4 to 5 to 8 to 1/4 cup to 1 cup to 3/4 cup. What
anyone care to comment on the amount of fertilizer they use and what defines
normal, pushed, and aggressively pushed fertilizer application rates?
Happy in Manure-land,
Matt

I think that any pumpkin that is gaining over 100 lbs.
every 3 days is definetely split-prone. Gerry is going to try 2
fruits on 1 plant also. I will again be pushing mine to the limit, if it
splits again, I will try it again. Would rather grow an occasional world
record than a bunch of big pumpkins.
