Good notes Chris. I think that any pumpkin that is gaining over 100 lbs.
every 3 days is
definetely split-prone. The pumpkin did develop a d-ring (defect-ring)
very late in the season on the stem end and it did have 3 small cracks
at the ribs on the bottom at the ring. The first split occured at the
blossom end depression. That depression is the only thing that bothers
me in the least as it may be genetic. We are going to grow 2 815's this
year though, so it doesn't bother me much. Gerry is going to try 2
fruits on 1 plant also. I will again be pushing mine to the limit, if it
splits again, I will try it again. Would rather grow an occasional world
record than a bunch of big pumpkins. Hope this helps.
