Andrew and others:
The flat or ribbon vine syndrome of this plant was "cured" when I whacked off
the main at 3 ft. from the stump very early in the vining stage. After that,
the pairs of side vines really intrigued me as I have not seen two side vines
coming from the same leaf axil on the same side of the main. As the plant
gets larger, more pairs develop. The plant is really stable, no problems,
except the tendency to snarl. The tendrils reach out and grab the other vine,
making this plant higher maintenance. The tendrils can restrict growth enough
to cause broken leaf stems and vine splits
Thanks for your message. I know this plant will produce a fine pumpkin, it's
just growing in an alternative manner under very unusual circumstances. This
Hunt 991 is a plant with character!
