Hi and Seeds

I'm new to the List so wanted to say Hi to all and introduce myself.

I've been growing (mainly Prize Winners) for several years now with
something of a dual purpose. For over twenty years, Halloween has been
quite the event on our street. There are about five or six of us that go
all out to entertain the kids (and adults) with graveyards, spooky forests,
witches' parlors, grim reapers, flying ghosts, real live ghouls and goblins
and the like. At our house alone, we'll dispense over 100 pounds of candy
and over 50 gallons of hot mulled cider to over 6,000 trick-or-treaters (we
actually topped 8,000 two years ago when Halloween fell on a Saturday)!
Needless to say, I need lots of pumpkins for Jack-O-Lanterns as part of my
display and growing them is cheaper than buying them (OH Parker, it's
shameful how easily you kid yourself). Truth be told... were Halloween not
the big deal it is, I'd still grow them just for the fun of it.

Anyway, this year I'm trying to grow a few extra-large ones to add something
special to my display. I've got some Howard Dill AG seeds just beginning to
sprout and I'm excited to see how they develop. I'm in Southern California
so my particular problem is managing the heat. Wrong climate, I know, for
growing the "Big One" but what the heck, it's fun anyway. If I can get a
300 pounder for the kids to wonder at on Halloween, then mission
accomplished.

If all goes well this time out, I'd be interested in acquiring some seed
with known genetics for next year. Any advice on how I should go about
doing this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and good luck to all this season.........Parker
