RE: Manure Amounts

Okay, I admit I'm fairly new to this game and probably easily confused, but
this whole soil thing has got me stumped. On the one hand, most every site
I've checked says a compost/manure blend (with little or no native soil) is
THE preferred growing medium and that fertilizing should emphasize Nitrogen
during the plant development stage. However, I now hear many of you telling
Beverly Hills Steve that he'll see anything from under-performance to
outright disaster if he goes this route? I have already prepared beds of
roughly 60% compost & 40% composted manure (Steve: I too am using the Home
Depot manure blend). I have not added any native soil because mine is
almost pure sand. So my question is, am I on the right track?
