 The thing to watch is soil temp.............you can have some nice days
but the soil might still be 45..............some growers will lay down
plastic to aid in warm the plant site  soil.....

..........George Brooks has some great direct start methods .......check
the web site that is for world class pumpkins.

most growers use peat pot as they perfer a more controled method to
starting some rare seeds..................but if you have a bunch of your
own seeds I would try direct with a few in peat pot as
back-ups.............if you plant early like now you have to make a mini
cold frame that will protect the plant at night......good luck.....brock
