Re: advice needed, when should I plantand how to plant?

Hi Richard...I live at the most northerly point in New Brunswick which is at the
48 degree Lattitude much the same as Thunder Bay where you are from, and at
present I have 5 pumpkin plants doing quite well, growing in mini greenhouses.
My garden is still 30% covered with snow but my plants are cozy with a bit of
ground heat from buried cables and also a few 40 watt light bulbs under each
greenhouse. If there is any sun at all, I have to open these greenhouses during
the day. At nite I can keep the temperature at about 55 to 65 degrees depending
on how much below freezing it drops. I have grown 600 and 700 lb pumpkins with
this set up. Whether you live in California or the Artic, it still takes the
same amount of time to grow a giant and if the climate is not there, then it has
to be created...so get those seeds going soon and try to build yourself some
type of greenhouse while you're waiting for germination to take place and the
weather to warm up.....Ken Reinsborough......Dalhousie, N.B.
