Re: HOW MANY PLANTS??
Of course, taking today's figures into consideration, Mark should be able to
grow 6-7 plants in that space, as long as he has the time and energy to put
forth to that many plants. The knowledge is there, as Mark has won our local
Northern Tier Giant Pumpkin Growers Association contest in the past, and has had
several pumpkins over the 600 pound range, losing a few of them to this and that
along the way.. It kind of reminds me of the Heavy Hitters article (HTGWCGPII)
on Jim Kuhn. Jim stuck with growing , even after several disappointments, and
finally broke through and shocked the world.. Mark is an on the edge type guy
and should be able to handle atleast 6 plants in the space he has..
I guess my other reference to this matter would be 2 examples that come to
mine, 1) My 879 grew in a patch that had 450 sq ft of tilled and prepared soil,
while allowing it to run onto the lawn for maybe another 250 sq ft. and 2) Gary
Burke grew his world record 1092 in approximately 600-650 sq ft of prepared
soil. This is just a few of the ones off the top of my head... so While
1000-1200 sq ft is recommended, it isnt necessary for the big ones.. It is just
a matter of plant management at this point.... Im sure there is a minimum, but
Mark is no where the minimum when it comes to past performances by some heavy
hitters..
