Ned,

Pumpkin plants have lots of roots. They spread everywhere, including under all the vines. The spikes don't cover a broad enough area.
Better to use granular and rake it it.

Dear List: I was just curious if any of the large 6 inch or so fertilizer spikes which come in different NPK ratios which I spied at our local Agway have any value to the pumpkin growers.  Are they too concentrated?  Any thoughts or has anyone used them? Ned
